The department of Biological Sciences at Hunter College, with funding from a Howard Hughes Medical Institute ( HHMI ) Undergraduate Science Education Grant welcomes you to the new age of Biological Studies. The HHMI grant provides Hunter with a wonderful opportunity to expand its Biology Department Curriculum and create research opportunities for all biology majors.

Research Opportunities – Biology majors now have opportunities for summer research at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole Massachusetts

Undergraduate Curriculum Development – The Department of Biological Sciences has added honors first-year biology, molecular systematics, and a course on current issues in biology such as bio-terrorism, and genetic engineering to the program. A new course in bioinformatics will soon be added.

Summer Workshops in Biotechnology for NYC High School Teachers – Upon completion of a 4-week summer workshop, high school teachers are able to order $2,000 worth of laboratory and supplies for their high school.

Faculty Development – The HHMI grant has made possible the hiring of a new faculty member, Dr. Weigang Qiu in the exciting field of Bioinformatics.
