Graduate students at Hunter College may
complete requirements for the Ph.D. degree in biology
or biochemistry. Lecture courses are taught at the City
University Graduate Center, located across the from the
Public Library at 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, and at
Hunter College or other Senior CUNY Units. The Graduate
Center provides a graduate student lounge, classrooms
and seminar rooms, a library, and dining facilities. Seminars
form an essential part of the programs. Students and faculty
learn about new developments in their own and other fields
and meet leading scientists in all areas of biology or
biochemistry during the weekly departmental seminar and
Graduate Center seminars. Past speakers have included
Nobel laureates Bruce Merrifield, Rosalyn Yalow, Herbert
Hauptman, Jerome Karle and Gertrude B. Elion. Graduate
students also have the opportunity to present their own
research and learn about the work of their colleagues
during many informal presentations.
